About Cervical Cancer

Cancer is a disease.  Cells in the body grow out of control.  Therefore, cancer is named for the part of the body where it starts. This holds true even if it spreads to other body parts later.

When cancer starts in the cervix, it is called cervical cancer.  In turn, the cervix connects the vagina to the upper part of the uterus. The uterus (or womb) is where a baby grows when a woman is pregnant.

All women are at risk for cervical cancer. Moreover, it occurs most often in women over age 30.

There is good news!  Cervical cancer is preventable.  Even more, there is more good news!  Screening tests and a vaccine to prevent infections are available.  As a result, when cervical cancer is found early it is treatable.

Cervical cancer treatment is resulting in long survival.   Even more, the good news is quality of life!   Cervical cancer is treatable.  Cervical cancer is beatable.
