Physician Leadership

In August of 1992, Dr. Devinder Singh founded the Arizona Center for Hematology/Oncology and has been servicing the greater Phoenix area since then with his other medical oncology associates. In 2008, in collaboration with Drs. Biggs, Lee, and Reed, the radiation oncology division was established, and the practice name was changed to Arizona Center for Cancer Care. Among his many accomplishments, in 2019 Dr. Singh received the “Oncology Service Award” from Phoenix Cancer Support Network and was nominated as “Best Doctor in Oncology” by Phoenix Magazine. He is a clinical assistant professor at Midwestern Medical University (Glendale campus) and is actively involved in teaching medical students.

Dr. Biggs co-founded Arizona Center for Cancer Care in 2008 with Drs. Devinder Singh, Daniel Reed and Terry Lee. He attended the University of Arizona, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular biology. His interest in cancer research took him to the University of Southern California, under the Borchard Cancer Research Fellowship. There, he performed research on the molecular genetics of cancer at the Norris Cancer Center and at LA Children’s Hospital. After completing his Doctor of Philosophy degree, he moved to Stanford University, where he earned his medical degree, and developed an interest in radiation oncology. Dr. Biggs completed his residency in radiation oncology at the University of California, San Francisco, where he eventually served as Chief Resident. Dr. Christopher Biggs specializes in radiation oncology and is an expert in radiosurgery and gynecologic oncology.

Known for his kind and caring demeanor, Dr. James Choi specializes in hematology, medical oncology, and internal medicine. He has participated in several research studies involving the role of U5 in mRNA splicing complex, second allogeneic transplant for relapsed high-grad hematologic malignancies, radiation therapy for gastroesophageal junction and gastric carcinoma as well as transcriptome profiling of B-CLL to identify novel markers for prognosis and therapeutic targets. In addition to his research, Dr. Choi has been published in the Journal of Bone Marrow Transplant and has presented his research findings at the American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting.

Dr. Benjamin is board certified by American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and has a Subspecialty Certification in Gynecologic Oncology. He has been named in the Guide to America’s Top Oncologists, a multi-year Top Doc in US News and World Report and awarded for his work by the National Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, Columbia College of Physicians & Surgeons and University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, among others. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery using the da Vinci surgical robot and has performed over 3,500 complex robotic gynecologic surgeries for both cancer and non-cancerous conditions. He serves as a robotic surgery proctor for training and skills certification of other surgeons throughout the country for Intuitive Surgical on the da Vinci Surgical System. Dr. Benjamin is also a proctor and trainer for Plasma Surgical on their PlasmaJet system.

Dr. Donovan is one of the founders of Valley Urology Specialists, a premier urology practice in partnership with HonorHealth. He joined Arizona Center for Cancer Care in 2010 when his former team at Valley Urology Associates entered into a strategic partnership with the organization. Dr. Donovan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Arizona State University and his Medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He completed additional training in general surgery, followed by a residency in urology at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. Dr. Donovan further advanced his expertise through a fellowship in pediatric urology at the Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma, where he trained under world-renowned pediatric urologist Bradley P. Kropp.

A specialist in treating breast diseases, Dr. Moorthy practices oncoplastic breast surgery, which combines sound oncology principles with plastic surgery techniques. The goal is to obtain wider surgical margins for complete removal of the breast tumor and minimize the risk of recurrence, while still providing the best possible cosmetic results. She performs nipple sparing mastectomy and participates in a national registry. Dr. Moorthy was voted by her peers as a “Top Doc” in 2013. One of her passions is to promote international awareness of breast cancer, specifically in countries such as India. She has coauthored publications and a book chapter and is certified by the American Board of Surgery. In her spare time Dr. Moorthy enjoys travelling and playing tennis with her husband and two young sons.

Dr. Biren G. Patel specializes in urology. He joined Arizona Center for Cancer Care in 2011 when his team at Northwest Urology Associates, entered into partnership with them. Dr. Patel earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences as well as his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine, where he was a Regent Scholar. He completed his internship and a residency in both general surgery and urology at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center, where he also won a teaching award from the School of Medicine.

Dr. Scott P. Tannehill is Board Certified in Radiation Oncology with over two decades of clinical experience. He has been in practice in Arizona since 2008 and was a co-founder of Arizona Breast Cancer Specialists and Arizona Radiation Oncology Specialists, both of which joined Arizona Center for Cancer Care in 2012. Dr. Tannehill has extensive clinical expertise in brachytherapy, Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and LUTATHERA. He has been invited to present on his techniques and experience both nationally and internationally. His research interests include treatment techniques for breast cancer, brachytherapy for breast and other cancers, and participation in cooperative group clinical research.
