Dr. Thosani joined Arizona Center for Cancer Care in 2022 when her practice Modern Dermatology joined the group. With over 19 years of experience in cutaneous oncology and dermatologic surgery, Maya K. Thosani, MD, brings not only her clinical expertise but her light-hearted, compassionate approach to MODERN Dermatology, which has offices in Scottsdale, Arizona near the Shea and Osborn Hospital campuses.

Dr. Maya Thosani did her undergraduate training at Columbia University, except for the semester abroad in Spain where she gained fluency in Spanish. She then attended Rutgers Medical School and was honored to be one of a handful of students elected by her peers and professors to serve in the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

After completing a rigorous internship at New York University’s Downtown Hospital in Manhattan, she remained in NYC completing three years of dermatology residency and served as a Chief Resident at Stony Brook University Hospital. During these 3 years she spent her time divided between University Hospital, the Veterans Affairs hospital, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering (MSK) Skin Cancer Center.

In pursuit of advanced surgical training, Dr. Thosani completed a demanding one-year accredited fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery in Cincinnati under the mentorship of Dr. Brett Coldiron. During this year, Dr Thosani also spent time training at the hospital with plastic surgeons, head & neck surgeons, and oculoplastic surgeons in the operating room. While Mohs micrographic surgeons are not considered “plastic surgeons” – their training overlaps considerably regarding facial reconstruction after surgical removal of cancers. Dr. Thosani’s clinical interests involve cutaneous oncology and the use of dermoscopy as a non-invasive tool for early detection of skin cancer.

She regularly attends the Cutaneous Oncology Tumor Boards at Honor Health and participates in select research studies. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, Phoenix Dermatologic Society, and a fellow of the Mohs College. She has done over 15,000 Mohs micrographic surgeries, as well as countless other surgical procedures. She is double board certified in both Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery.

Her personal interests include spending time with her husband and three children. She is passionate about health and wellness – believing that there are many factors that influence our bodies and minds – especially nutrition and movement. She spends a great deal of time cooking and making healthy delicious recipes, going to yoga daily, and traveling with her family and friends. Golf, skiing, biking and hiking are some of the new passions she has been fortunate enough to pursue since moving to the Valley in 2014!

Dr. Maya Thosani truly feels that with the personalized care she provides, coupled with humor and the time she takes to get to intimately know her patients that she can make the greatest difference in their lives.

Dr. Thosani has been blessed to be recognized by Phoenix Magazine as a Top Doc in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
